This Dustshoe designed by BASt for the RatRig Stronghold PRO can be set independently of your spindle, so you always extract your chips at the right working height.

I was already developing a dustshoe on the Killerbee. I have had a Stronghold for a few years now and I have also continued to develop a solid dust extraction system there.
Because a dustshoe that moves with the Z axis can easily exert up to 10 kilos of pressure on your workpiece (or counterpressure on your Z axis), this is not ideal.
A dustboot that floats above your workpiece is a lot more practical and works at least as well. Only a lot more difficult to design. I started with a 'regular' dustboot with a brush, but because the floating shoe has to fall 'around' the entire Z axis, the surface is quite large, which in addition to reduced extraction also has a significant impact on your total work surface. (10 cm less space on the X axis, 15 cm on the Y axis)

After several iterations I came up with a design without a brush. There is no need for a brush anymore, because the suction power is retained due to the much smaller surface. The smaller shape also makes it much less likely to bump into a clamp, but of course you still have to watch out for that!

In the meantime, this dustboot has reached a stage where more people have to start using it to smooth out any last wrinkles.

Hence this Early Access version.

See my instagram for more videos about the development and how it works. Minor adjustments may still be made, but the Dustshoe is functionally well-functioning and sturdy.

Including mounting material and handle.
Source yourself; approx. 50 cm drainpipe 60 mm outer dimensions.

Please note; This is an Early Access version, so it may take about a week before you receive it. The initial edition is also limited.

Notice 3D Printed Accessories and Attachments

  • The use of any accessory or attachment other than recommended in the operating instructions of the original product for which such accessory or attachment was manufactured may result in risk of personal injury or damage to the machine and will void the warranty.
  • This accessory should only be used by persons who have experience with the original product and are familiar with the risks of using it.
  • BASt is not responsible for damage caused by any use of the original product for which this accessory or attachment was made other than as described in the original user manuals, technical specifications and other published guidelines for its use.
  • BASt is not affiliated with and has no relationship with companies for which accessories are designed. BASt therefore has no influence on adjustments, product versions or other changes in the products for which the accessories are intended. Therefore, no rights can be derived from this.
  • 3D printing uses so-called Fused Deposition Modeling, which means that the print is built up from thin layers that are melted together and thus form a whole. It is therefore normal that you still see some lines. It is also possible that a small thread is hanging somewhere or that you see a bump; this does not affect the quality of the product.
  • Because the tolerances for sizes are small, it can happen that your accessory fits tightly or does not fit. In almost all cases, this can be trimmed with sandpaper or a knife. In some cases, I have already done this myself, which is why you see a slightly different color there. In that case, there is no wear, manufacturing defect or second-choice product.
  • If you have any doubts, please contact me and I will be happy to help you.

Materials

A 3D print can be done with different materials. The most used materials are:

  • PLA-ST, a high strength and toughness plastic made with starch raw materials derived from renewable plant resources. This material has a very high impact resistance, but does not withstand temperatures above 50°.
  • ABS+, Suitable for temperatures up to 100° and impact resistant.
  • PETG, A material similar to the material PET bottles are made of, suitable for temperatures up to 85°.
Each material has its own specific properties, which can be advantageous or disadvantageous for a particular application.

3D printed items are printed in the material best suited for the intended application.
For example, ABS+ is chosen for grinding jigs. This has a high temperature resistance, but keep an eye on it (also for your gouge itself) that you do not let the metal you are grinding get too hot.

If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Colors

For my prints I try to keep a consistent color choice at all times. Unfortunately spools are not always in stock and I will have to choose from the available options.
The preferred color is always indicated in one of the product photos.

If you have a specific color preference, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Note: Colors are always approximate; screens and product lighting may produce different shades.
